About Us
Welcome to Frederick’s – a drinking and dining destination rich with history as one of Berlin’s most famous social hotspots.
Frederick’s is housed in the former Hotel Esplanade which today is part of the renowned Sony Center. Located in the heart of Berlin this impressive location recently underwent a dramatic renovation.
The design remains faithful to the building’s heritage with its Belle Époque architectural style, which has been juxtaposed with murals from Berlin street artists and modern features to reflect the city today. It represents a fusion of the old and new, combining an industrial aesthetic with a gloss of bohemian glamour.
The building is intended to offer a relaxed vibe. Designer Robert Angell honoured the location’s heritage and architecture, whilst bringing it into the modern world.
This was achieved through restoring and re-purposing lighting pieces and iconic furniture with glamorous and textured fabrics, adding contemporary and evocative artwork, to achieve a juxtaposition with the ornate and original patina of the building’s architecture. This serves to balance both opulence and liveability whilst breathing life and energy back into the space. Ultimately creating something timeless and unique.
Our Menu
Frederick’s food concept is influenced by our multicultural kitchen team, you will find classic German dishes reinvented alongside international flavours. Our delicious dishes are designed to be shared and enjoyed.
Our menu celebrates a little of everyone in our kitchen so you really can expect to find something for everyone. This is the food we love to eat and we hope you do too.
Design
Rob Angell restored and enhanced the protected Heritage aspects of the interiors within Frederick’s. These include the Rotunda floors, walls and ceilings; the ground floor gentlemen’s bathroom; the iconic Kaisersaal in its entirety; the Main Bar mural and silver columns, light fixtures and floor; the staircase and light fixture leading to the Gallery bar; and an original elevator door, which is now hung on the wall.
Our design includes newly painted murals from Berlin street artists featured on the Main Bar and Restaurant walls, the staircase leading up to the first floor and along one side of the Gallery Bar – all of which reflect aspects of Berlin today.
Art plays a large role throughout the interiors. We have painted panelling in a timeless way to add a faded glamour to the main dining room area. Plants have been brought in as a nod to the Esplanade’s palm court, which is now the main dining space. We have added new or renovated furniture and beautiful lighting to bring our concept to life and create different experiences and areas for guests to drink and dine.
Our Ethos
Frederick’s is a space to come together and have fun over food, wine, cocktails and stories. The menu has been designed to be shared or enjoyed alone, as we want everyone who comes to Frederick’s to have the experience they choose. This is a colourful space filled with music and energy and we encourage relaxed social eating with people you like and love. Everyone is welcome.
